January Auction Highlights 2016
THE SCOTCH MALT WHISKY SOCIETY COLLECTION
The highlight of this sale is undoubtedly the beautiful collection of over 140 SMWS bottlings.
The collection features an example from almost every distillery in the SMWS catalogue and numerous .1 and .2 editions.
Highlights are the set of three 5th anniversary editions which include a 1972 Bowmore 3.10, a 1972 Glenlivet 2.6 and a 1969 Glenfarclas 1.26.
There are some stunningly dark sherry casks examples from the likes of Glen Grant 9.4 and Macduff 6.5.
There are early examples from rarely seen distilleries these days such as Glenfiddich 1976 15.2 and Balvenie 1967 40.3.
There is a Port Ellen 1981 43.3, another beautifully dark Rosebank 1979 25.2 and a wonderfully well preserved St Magdalene 1975 49.1.
There are some real treasures in this collection such as the Ardbeg 1975 33.2, the Brora 1976 61.1, Lagavulin 1980 111.1 and the Lomond 1972 98.1.
Although if you dig around there are also some real obscure and fascinating drams such as Clynelish 1982 26.3, Springbank 1967 27.11, Glenglassaugh 1967 21.7 and Caol Ila 1978 53.1.
There are even some early selections of single grain whiskies and some of the Heaven Hill single casks bottled in the early 2000s including Cask 5 the 1984 20 year old. We could go on but there are just too many to list here, you’ll have to dive in and have a look for yourself.
