Much had changed during the intervening years: the Motlow family sold the distillery to Brown-Forman in 1956, while sales continued to grow rapidly, increasing around tenfold during the 1960s and 1970s as Jack Daniel's developed into an internationally recognised Tennessee whiskey.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIn 1981, Jack Daniel's entered the Brussels-based Monde Selection's Institute for Quality Selections, where it was awarded the organisation's highest distinction, the Grand Gold Medal with Palm Leaves.
